An unusual design for Godine’s Nonpareil imprint, dedicated to reprints of classic titles. Nearly every Nonpareil Book stuck to the formula of a block of type with a square or near-square illustration below. In this case, it seemed a shame to crop Barry Moser’s portrait engraving of the great “Sage of Concord,” so we broke the rules.
