After a long and successful run with our previous design, Mark Polizzotti and Rachel High asked for a new direction for the Met’s publication catalogue for 2020, just in time for the Museum’s 150th anniversary. We evaluated dozens of typefaces and worked through quite a few variations on the page grid to arrive at this clean-cut layout that met all their criteria for copy and images in a slightly smaller format than their previous catalogues. Jonathan Hoefler’s Whitney types gave the pages a crisp, unfussy, contemporary look.
