The trim size of Godine’s Imago Mundi series was determined by asking the printer of the first book to derive the maximum oblong page size from the sheet they’d chosen for the text. This slightly square page is surprisingly well suited to illustrated books, allowing photographs and illustrations plenty of room to breathe. This volume of photographs by one of New England’s premier maritime photographers has a complex mix of square, upright, and vertical images, and the landscape rectangle fit them nicely. Set in Bulmer, with Acanthus Italic for the display, the book was printed in duotone.
