Non-fiction for young readers can be a tricky: it’s tempting to overdo it. Susan Fillion put together a treat for art lovers of all ages. To tell the story of those redoubtable Baltimorean art collectors, Etta and Claribel Cone, Fillion supplemented her own paintings with a choice selection of works from the renowned Cone Collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Cameo appearances from Picasso, Gertrude Stein, and more make the story vivid, but never weigh down the narrative.  We balanced the bold color of the art with a generous amount of white space, and set the text in an elegant French type, Fournier.
