Quite out of the blue, David Godine dropped a copy of the first edition of this classic book on my desk and asked if I could do anything with it. He admired the text and the photographs equally, and the rights were available. We could even reproduce the images from the book in hand: it had been nicely printed in gravure, and the plates were in excellent condition. I pulled everything apart, worked out a medium-sized trim that balanced image and text elegantly and reset it in Perpetua. Oddi Printing in Iceland did a lovely job with the duotones.
